When you think of “community” – what comes to mind? Or perhaps a better question…WHO would you consider to be a part of your community?
Hopefully, you’re able to answer that question without too much hesitation. Hopefully, you’re able to rattle off a list (even a short one) of friends, family members, or colleagues that offer you support, encouragement, or even a challenge when you need one.
For many of us, when we hear the word “community” our minds immediately jump to “local community.”
In other words…
We tend to think of the people and relationships that are in close proximity to us geographically. The people we see on a day-to-day basis.
That’s good!
It’s important to find communal support with people you see and interact (in a physical sense) regularly.
That being said…
I truly believe that to focus solely on your close “proximity” community would have you missing out on some valuable perspectives and meaningful relationships.
In my opinion, one of the greatest outcomes of technological advancement is the increased capacity for connection with people everywhere! For the first time in history, maintaining a truly global community is right at the fingertips of almost everyone.
If you have a computer or a smartphone and reliable internet access, you can have a global community!
You may be wondering, “Why should I care about having a global community?”
Great question!
Because the greatest benefit that comes from widening your circle of connection is this:
Global community brings with it global perspectives.
The truth is, none of us have all the answers, or even all of the experiences necessary to FIND “all of the answers.”
It is in sharing with one another that we:
- Learn more.
- Grow more.
- Appreciate more.
- Think more.
When you “connect outside the box” you open yourself to even greater opportunities and life’s marvels..
Our team believes in the importance of global connection that has fueled our work in creating our online virtual community, The SandBoxx.
