Body Wisdom: Learning To Trust What Your Body Is Saying

It’s something we all need and desire, and yet maintaining our personal health isn’t always easy. It can be nuanced, complicated, and so uniquely personal that it can be difficult to know what steps to take to optimize our overall health. 

This can be especially difficult when things just don’t seem to be working as they should. Navigating seasons of poor health is difficult. It’s confusing. It’s overwhelming. 

But have you ever considered that addressing these physical struggles isn’t as simple as a quick trip to the doctor’s office? That maybe a prescription or a procedure isn’t truly getting to the root of the problem? 

This is where the concept of body wisdom comes into play. 

Body wisdom refers to the idea that our bodies are actively communicating with us. They send us signs and messages to clue us into underlying problems that need to be addressed. 

Oftentimes, these underlying issues are spiritual or psychological in nature. In some cases, we are aware of these internal struggles, and other times, they simply exist within our subconscious. If left unaddressed, these underlying struggles can begin to manifest through physical signs and symptoms.

Your physical aches and pains are your body’s way of telling you, “Hey! We have some things we need to work through.”

Author and transformational facilitator, Royce Morales, has dedicated her life to helping people uncover and heal the hidden traumas that lie beneath their physical health struggles. In professional work, Royce guides individuals dealing with chronic health issues through a process of self-discovery. They work together to identify the core struggles and are fueling their physical pains and begin a path toward healing.

In other words, it’s time to start paying attention to your body. 

It’s easy to ignore physical symptoms (especially ongoing ones) or write them off as just a part of aging or bad genetics. Unfortunately, when we just accept physical struggles as “part of life,” we don’t get to the crux of the matter. We won’t be able to heal the deeper struggles. 

What kind of signs should you be looking for? 

Start with anything that just doesn’t feel quite right. This may include (but is not limited to):

  • Chronic pain 
  • Insomnia
  • GI issues 
  • Physical issues that don’t resolve 
  • Adult hormonal acne 
  • Hair loss 

Each of these conditions is a sign that your body is likely under profound stress triggered by some deeper, subconscious experience. If you’re able to identify your body’s stress responses, you’re ready to take the next step towards uncovering those deeper struggles.
