Chasing Light: November’s Hidden Magic…

Chasing Light: November’s Hidden Magic…

“There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” — Leonard Cohen

As November settles in, we enter a time of reflection, a natural pause before the rush of the holidays. It’s a season marked by subtleties—shifts in light, temperature, and even how we feel. This week, let’s take a moment to notice these changes and reflect on how they influence our inner and outer worlds.

To help guide your reflections, let’s use the acronym L.I.G.H.T.:

  • LLight: The changing angle of light can be a reminder of the passage of time. Have you noticed how the sunlight filters differently through your window or how the early darkness shifts your mood?
  • IInner Energy: Our energy levels fluctuate with shorter days and cooler temperatures. Pay attention to how your body responds—are you sleeping more or less? Feeling more energized in the crisp air or more inclined to rest?
  • GGrounding Emotions: Cooler weather often brings a grounding quality, pulling us inward. Reflect on how this seasonal change influences your emotions—are you feeling more introspective, nostalgic, or unsettled?
  • HHeightened Awareness: As we tune into these external shifts, we often become more aware of internal obligations. Do you feel a growing sense of responsibility as the year winds down? What drives this feeling—personal goals, family expectations, or societal pressures?
  • TTime: November’s quiet reminder is that time is moving forward, but we don’t need to rush. Instead, we can notice and appreciate the moments. This is a time to reflect on how you’re spending your time and whether it’s aligning with what truly matters to you.

Transform Your Focus with These Three Tips:

  1. Pause for a Moment of Stillness: Step outside for a minute each day. Notice the angle of the light, the temperature on your skin, and how the world looks different from last month.
  2. Journal Your Observations: Keep a short daily journal of what you’ve noticed—about the world around you and the shifts within yourself. This simple practice[1] can help you stay present and grounded.
  3. Honor Your Energy: If you’re feeling more tired or introspective, let it be. Instead of pushing against the season’s natural rhythms, lean into them. Allow yourself to slow down and be intentional with your time.

Your Turn
